2013 Ferrari Carano Tresor Cabernet Blend 5.0 L Bordeaux / Napoleon Size Bottles

“Tresor” meaning treasure in French, is just that:

Boasting an opaque black color, this 2013 Cabernet-based blends opens with a fabulous nose of wild blueberries, orchids, violets, dashes of cinnamon and clove amongst a background of crème de cassis liqueur. The palate reveals the vintage’s tell-tale seamlessness, offering up a full body with extraordinary suppleness and terrific fruit purity. It is a spectacular wine and, with its gorgeous velvety texture, it drinks wonderfully now.

True, Ferrari Carrano is a large winery, and you’ve probably seen some of their wines in grocery stores or discount liquor retailors. And maybe you don’t expect Waterford to sell big brand-named wineries like that. But I have a soft spot in my heart for Ferrari Carrano – my mother held a special celebration at their facility (it’s stunning, visit if you can), and they were all amazingly fine people.

And the winery is darn good at what they do. Big yes, but good: The winery is still in family hands. Rhonda Carano is still the CEO. I don’t know why, but Rhonda employs an entirely female winemaking team. In a place that likes to think it’s progressive, winemaking in California is often still male-dominated.

This winery is actually two wineries for quality purposes – the whites are made in Sonoma, the reds are made up in Knight’s Valley. So what you are getting here is all mountain fruit, and I challenge you to find a California Mountain fruit Cabernet that hits this tasty high at this lovely low price. And to top it all off, Ferrari Carano is sustainably certified!

And this wine is amazingly tasty, which is what matters most. They offered me a superb discount, and I took it. I think you should, too. Enjoy!
