2014 Seven Hills Winery 7 Hills Vineyard Merlot
The name is a bit confusing, but one of the most famous vineyards in Walla Walla is called Seven Hills Vineyard. And one of the oldest, and indeed founding member wineries of that vineyard, is also called Seven Hills. So here, Seven Hills Winery is making their oldest blocks of Merlot from the 7 Hills Vineyard. As these are some of the oldest vines in the valley, this wine is a treat – the wine opens with deep blackberry aromas followed with notes of dried herb, spice and vanilla. It has a core of fruit and structure that is profoundly deep, meaning the something I always associate with Walla Walla Merlot. At six years old, this wine is at a glorious moment of early adulthood, really flexing its power and brilliance.
