2018 Weingut Franzen Elbling, Mosel
Elbling is an offspring of gouais blanc (parent grape of chardonnay) and is a cross between Traminer and some unidentified variety, which has the same parentage as Riesling. Elbling is typically more acidic and more tropical than Riesling, but in Franzen’s hands, the wine is zippy yet round. Perfect to recommend this wine as a poolside, or boating wine with the ability to pair with most salads and lighter fare. Word speak on the classically steep vineyards of the Mosel is added.
