The Rhone River Valley is one of the classic French wine regions. It starts in central France, just south of Lyon, and stretches almost to the Mediterranean Sea. The region cultivates a vast variety of grapes from many famous appellations along the Rhone. From appellations like Cornas, Cote Rotie, and Hermitage in the Northern Rhone—which blends their primary red grape, Syrah, with white grapes Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier—to appellations like Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, and Vacqueyras in the Southern Rhone—which crafts red blends from Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise, and many other grapes. There simply isn’t a better example of a red wine blending region than the Rhone Valley.
Due to the number of grapes cultivated in the region—and because of its vast array of classic appellations—our tour of Rhone Valley Red Blends will be a dizzying, phantasmagorical, mind-blower 🤯 of a tasting! The tasting won’t just show you classic styles of Rhone Valley red blends. And it won’t just show you great bottles of Rhone Valley red blends from great estates. It will raise your consciousness and deepen your understanding of all red blends.
