Austrian Wine Season – Spring!

A month of free virtual wine learning March 11 – April 8, 2021

Ever since my life in the wine trade began, I’ve been anticipating, expecting, hoping for the greater world of wine to embrace the wines of Austria. To drink, praise, and adore them with the passion I do. Austrian wine — by the bottle, the glass, or the sip — inspires me with missionary zeal. Truly, truly I say to you, the hour of Austrian wine is near!

But you know me, and you know Waterford, where you know the hour of Austrian wine arrived here ages ago. And for the next four weeks, Waterford is celebrating the glory of Austrian wine with four Austrian wine tastings led by three Austrian wine experts.

Why am I so crazy about Austrian wine?

Because no other place on earth has wines so refreshing yet so concentrated, wines so rich with so much grace.

Because no country so small has such a captivating variety of wine grapes and such a vast variety of wine terroirs. From white grapes like Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Gemischter Satz to red grapes like Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch, and Sankt Laurent. From the loess layers of Niederösterreich, to the calcareous soils of Burgenland and Südsteiermark, to the volcanic ash of Kamptal and Vulkanland Steiermark.

And because no other county is so dominated by family wineries — small estates making wine as purely as possible.

Yes, I am crazy about Austrian wine. And after these Austrian wine seminars, you’ll be just as crazy as me.
