J. Mourat Val de Loire Owl Collection Rose 2020
In May 2005, Jérémie Huchet and Jérémie Mourat (above) met and formed a lasting friendship. Together they decided to pursue their passion for organic viticulture in a rather unheard-of region – the Fiefs Vendéens. Never heard of it? You’re not the only one. The Fiefs Vendéens is about an hour south of Nantes, France. That technically puts in in the Loire Valley, but it takes the IGP appellation. There, the two Jérémies established a completely organic vineyard on pure schist soils under the overt maritime influence of the Atlantic.
The result? A rose of pure and boundless joy.
This Rosee is a gorgeous salmon pink with orange accents that practically invites you to dive into the glass. On the palate, it tastes like a field of wild strawberries bursting with their fully ripened intensity while hints of grapefruit, orange peel and mint echo in the background. It is beautifully crisp, perfectly balancing its freshness around a core of minerality. The total experience matches the elegance and finesse of a Bandol rose, but with the joyful glee of running through a sprinkler in the warm summer sun. You can understand why those two guys are laughing.
