Jehan Emonin Bourgogne Blanc 2016
This gem comes from two vineyards just to the east of the village, and adjacent to Meursault AOC vineyards. We’ve discussed many a time what the difference in a few feet can do to the price of a wine… yet quality is right in line with those officially labelled “Meursault”. Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented using only indigenous yeasts before being aged 12-18 months in used oak barrels (1-3 years old).
This baby explodes with classic Meursault aromas of ripe peaches and pears, along with toasted hazelnuts. Rich and luscious in the mouth, the wine brings more fruit that you can imagine, but all kept in check by 2017s vibrant acidity. A hint of smoke and fine minerality runs through the long finish. Delicious now, I wouldn’t hesitate to plan on drinking this over the next 4-5 years.
