Veuve Fourny Premier Cru Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs
If you know me or my staff at Waterford Wine & Spirits, you know we love Champagne. I mean, we really love Champagne. We celebrate with Champagne, and we commiserate with Champagne. We drink Champagne on any occasion and for no reason at all. We drink a lot of Champagne. And we know a lot about Champagne. So when I say every one of us loves Veuve Fourny Vertus Brut Nature Blanc de Blancs, that means a lot.
The brothers Emmanuel and Charles-Henry Fourny cultivate nine hectares of vines in Vertus, a premier cru village in the Côte des Blancs, one of the most prestigious subregions of Champagne. Their vines have been in the Fourny family for nearly 200 years. What distinguishes the house style of Veuve Fourny is the care of Emmanuel and Charles-Henry’s viticulture, the quality of their viniculture, and their fidelity to the chalky terroir of Vertus.
The beauty of the Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature begins with the four acres of 60-year-old Chardonnay vines Emmanuel and Charles-Henry cultivate. The brothers age part of the base Chardonnay wine on its lees in Burgundian barrels, apply no dosage to the wine, and age the resulting Champagne for two-and-a-half years before its release.
The Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature is the apex of the Fourny house style. This Champagne is dry, elegant, and complex, with a fine bead, rich aromatics, a gorgeous purity of fruit, and a depth of minerality. If you love Champagne as much as we do, this is an ideal style of Champagne. It’s a Champagne you’re always going to have a bottle of in your fridge. It’s a Champagne which may have you drinking as much Champagne as we do at Waterford!
