If there is one thing northern Italians love more than their own wine, it’s their mothers. If there are two things they love more than their own wine, it has to be their mothers and Champagne. Trust me: Go into any village in northern Italy and I guarantee you will find a Champagne bar—crowded, noisy, packed, and pouring bubbly like there is no tomorrow.

Of course, on occasion, France and Italy have gone to war with one another and therefore supplies of Champagne have been interrupted. What to do? Copy the frogs’ method of making Champagne and use your own grapes to produce something just as good as—if not better than—what you can get in Champagne. Now you can’t call it Champagne, so in Italy you will give it all kinds of regional names – Franciacorta, Spumante and here, in our example, Prosecco.

Prosecco is one of the great sparkling wines of Italy. Made in a style that preserves its fruit freshness, you can simply drink it all night long — and longer! — and feel like the world is absolutely radiant. That’s the power of Prosecco: fine, modern, and versatile.

Le Contesse Prosecco Rosé opens with generous aromas of strawberries, touches of sweet tangerine fruit, crisp notes of lemon, and a dash of dried roses. The palate is clean and crisp, yet doesn’t lack for flavor. There’s a midpalate fruit density centered around lush roses, with a fresh and crunchy note of Honeycrisp apple. The finish is extremely long and creamy, almost as if this were Champagne.

The Bonotto family has been making wine for as long as anyone can remember. But their renowned Le Contesse winery was officially founded in 1976 when Bonotto, with the help of his father’s life savings, purchased a property in Treviso province once owned by the Tiepolo countesses, one of the area’s most famous families and the inspiration for the winery’s name — le Contesse (literally, “the countesses”). The Bonotto is one of Italy’s best Proseccos wines, and at this price, it’s here for you to make every day a little more sparkly!
