Event Details

Wine has been made in South Africa for more than 369 years, and yet South Africa is regarded as a New World wine country. But while South Africa has been making wine longer than any other New World region, the creation of the KWV or co-operatives, the political history of the country due to the isolation and boycotts during Apartheid has obstructed its ability to make world class wines, until now.

Change for the people and the wines of South Africa arrived with a codified system of wine laws in 1973, the establishment of five geographical wine regions in 1993, and the end of Apartheid in 1994.

Today, a new generation of South African winemakers are charting an inspiring course for the country’s wines. These are wines of beauty, clarity and grace made from European cultivars like Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, as well as those made from the country’s native Pinotage — a cross of Pinot Noir and Cinsault. Most importantly, these are wines that show the distinctive qualities of the earth they’re from — the inimitable qualities of South African terroir, some of the oldest, untouched soils on the planet

We’d love you to discover the new renaissance of South African wine with us and the winemakers that are producing world-class wines today.
