Event Details

On the eastern edge of France, between Burgundy and Switzerland, lies the Jura—arguably, the most distinctive wine region in France. Named for the Jurassic foothills in
which they are located, this is an undulating land of meadows and hills filled with small
enclaves of vines, cattle pastures and fruit trees.

Although the Jura has been making distinctive wines for centuries, it still remains relatively unknown to the wider wine world. Some of this is due to the region's rural isolation, some is due to the small amount of wine produced—and therefore limited in its availability—and some of it is the uniqueness of the wines produced. All of these reasons have also created a small, but fiercely loyal, fanbase of drinkers and collectors.

They grow five different grape varieties: Chardonnay, Savagnin, Pinot Noir, Poulsard, and Trousseau. Some are familiar, although in a style that is distinctly of the Jura. The others are indigenous to region and make compelling, complex, unique and delicious wines. And, if this wasn’t enough to wrap your head around, they also make Vin Jaune—the famous yellow wine of the Jura, which is a category of aged and oxidized wine that is wholly unique.

We will attempt to demystify and explore the Jura by sampling seven wines and five grapes spread across the four main villages in the region.
