Back at the dawn of Burgundy’s winemaking Comtes, or Counts, ruled the Cote d’Or. And of course, every Comte had to have his own wine, and it had to better than every other Comte. This gave rise to a series of Clos, or walled-in vineyards, that were considered the best vineyards of a particular village. Rightfully (or Mightfully!), the Comtes of the village own these Clos and made wine from them. This gave rise to a series of vineyards, places and wines that you can still taste today – the chateau and its clos vineyards of a particular village.
