Maybe you’ve tasted these wines and know their intense power that is sensually coupled with grace and ageability.  Or maybe you’ve seen or heard wine geek friends describe experiences with Burgundy that seem to be heaven-sent rather than poured from a bottle.  Whatever your experience – for Master Sommeliers and beginning connoisseurs alike – we want to pour enough amazing Burgundian Pinot Noir into your glass that it  makes you, too, a Burgundy believer.

Yet for all our love of Burgundy, the Burgundians themselves don’t make life easy.  The labels are a study in confusion.  The vineyard designations are complex – there are something like 22,000 of them!  The wines can be unexplainably hard in their youth, to the point of consternation.  And being all of that – they can be prohibitively expensive, too.

Discussion and resolution of these problems is a tall order for any tasting, yet I’m sure together, we can succeed.  We’ll proceed in flights of wine.  Our opening flight is a discussion of the human factor in Burgundy – how it relates to the labels and purchasing, and how the winemaker can influence the final taste of the wine.  In the second flight, we explore the pyramid of label designations through an escalating sequence of wines.  In the final flight, we examine the fine distinctions among minute parcels of vineyards across some of the best communes in the region.

For committed Burgundy lovers and new Burgundy friends alike, this is a tasting not to miss.
