“I’ve had eighteen straight whiskies. I think that’s the record!”

— Last words of Dylan Thomas, Welsh Poet and Whisky Lover

In the late 1990s, in the pub of small Welsh valley town, a group of Welsh friends shared their dream to establish the first whisky distillery in Wales in over a century. Whisky had been made in Wales since the Middle Ages, but the nineteenth century temperance movement closed all of the region’s distilleries. The group of friends dreamed of making Welsh whisky as pure, as prestigious and as rare as the gold mined in the region since the Romans occupied Wales in the first century.

The friends located a site for their dream in Penderyn because of the village’s supply of fresh spring water. They acquired a copper single-pot still designed by Dr. David Faraday, a relative of the famous nineteenth century English scientist Michael Faraday. Five years after they had shared their dream in a pub, in the presence of Prince Charles, the group of friends officially launched the Penderyn Distillery.

Today the friends who began Penderyn Whisky employ the region’s best distillers, the world’s finest barley and the best American oak bourbon casks to make whisky worthy of their sacrifices for their dreams — whisky as pure, as prestigious and as rare as Welsh gold.

Please join us and our friends from Penderyn Distillery as we explore their extraordinary world of Welsh Whisky and experience the wellspring and fulfillment of great Welsh dreams.
