Founded in 1879, the Barton 1792 Distillery stands as the oldest continuously operating distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. Nestled in the heart of bourbon country on a sprawling 196-acre estate, the distillery features 29-barrel aging warehouses and 22 other structures, including a remarkable still house. It also benefits from the renowned Tom Moore Spring on its property. The '1792' in the name pays tribute to the year Kentucky was admitted to the United States.

Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020 World Whisky of the Year--the 1792 Full Proof Straight Bourbon--has been more than a little difficult to come by for at least a couple of years now. 1792 Full Proof is a rich and robust expression known for its bold character and ample complexity. As the name obviously indicates, this bourbon is bottled at its full cask strength, without dilution, capturing the full intensity of the spirit.

On the nose, 1792 Full Proof offers an enticing bouquet of caramel, vanilla, and oak, with hints of baking spices and toasted nuts. The aromas are potent, signaling the intensity of the whiskey to come.

Upon tasting, the bourbon delivers a palate-pleasing array of flavors. Rich caramel and toffee notes dominate, complemented by layers of vanilla, dark chocolate, and charred oak. The high proof adds depth and intensity, with a warming spice that lingers on the tongue.

The finish is long and satisfying, with a lingering sweetness balanced by a pleasant dryness. Oaky tannins and spice provide structure, while hints of dried fruit add complexity.

Waterford Wine & Spirits has managed to coral a few extra bottles of the 1792 Full Proof in our stores, so now is the time to pick one up before it disappears for another couple of years!
