Get to Know This Product

What do the beanie propeller hat, Hotwheels flexible racecar track, UPC code, Walkman, Fax Machine, Mr. Potato Head and a machine vision punch card metal lathe all have in common? They were all invented by one man, along with 600 other patented items – Jerome Lemelson.

Behind every amazing inventor is an amazing partner, and Jerome was lucky to meet and marry Dorothy “Thea” Ginsberg, who supported Jerome through most of his career as in an independent inventor. Thea helped stabilize the family as large corporations tried to litigate away Jerome’s pending patents. And although Jerome passed away in 1997, his foundation has now invested over $210 million to make a better and more just world through the power of invention.

And along the way, they had a child – Eric Lemelson. Now as you can imagine, the child of such two amazing parents turned out to be a rather strong-willed individual himself. And since we have some darn tasty wine to get to, let’s just jump ahead to 1990, when Eric attended a business dinner in downtown Portland, Oregon.

The 1990s were the great blossoming time for Willamette Valley Pinot Noir – some amazing vineyards had been identified and planted to matching clonal material, and vintners had matured their craft from hobby-style, garage-based wineries into handcrafted, experience-based, world-class winemaking. Eric ordered a bottle of the local Pinot Noir, tasted it, and his mind was blown.

And then two worlds collided – Dorothy maintained a small farmhouse in the hills of Dundee outside of Portland. Eric had become a leading environmental attorney, and now he couldn’t shake the taste, flavor and texture of Oregon Pinot. And so, with his considerable resources he turned the small farmhouse and its garden into an organically farmed vineyard with a LEED-certified gravity-flow winery. The results are utterly delicious Willamette Valley Pinot Noir:

Made from totally estate-grown organic fruit, Thea’s Cuvee hits an absolute homerun with the 2021 vintage it's simply irresistible. The nose opens with a beautiful blast of Pinot red fruit characters – a mélange of cherries backed up with nuanced notes of red licorice, roasted tea, cinnamon and touches of graham cracker. The palate is gorgeously smooth with beautiful texture. Perfectly integrated now feel free to drink with reckless abandon. But if you can, hold a few bottles in your cellar for over the next seven years – I promise, they will be secreted treasures!

To honor his father, Eric puts a little beanie hat on the label. To honor his mother, he named it after her. And to honor us, Eric has made a gorgeous Pinot that tastes of “memories of good times, those ineffable moments of glorious enjoyment, and peak experiences.” I’m so happy to be drinking this one – and you will be, too!
