Ameztoi Getariako Txakolina Blanco

In northern Spain’s sun-kissed Basque region, in Getaria, on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, this wine makes perfect sense.  It’s zesty, superbly fresh, minerally, salty,  with a banjo-like twang of acidity, the alcohol level of a Mosel Riesling, the sexiness of a little red Corvette and the baroqueness of a Gaudi cathedral.  I am told the Basques drink half of the region’s production during the month of August alone. Yes, this wine’s name is tongue-twistingly hard to pronounce.  Yes, the label looks like it was designed in Greece.  And yes, you will probably be one of the few people in Milwaukee (or the Midwest) to be drinking it this summer! Just say Txakolina (CHOCK-a-LEE-na) and enjoy one of the refreshingest wines the world has to offer.
