Some wineries make exceptional wines. Others help redefine an entire region. Ramey Wine Cellars belongs firmly in the latter category.
We invite you to an extraordinary seated tasting featuring one of California's most revered producers, hosted by Dan Buckler, Director of International Sales for Ramey Wine Cellars. This intimate evening offers the rare opportunity to explore the wines and philosophy of David Ramey, one of the most influential winemakers of the modern era.
David Ramey's career reads like a history of the California wine renaissance. After studying enology at the University of California, Davis, he broadened his perspective in France, working in both Bordeaux and Burgundy before returning to California. His remarkable résumé includes pivotal winemaking roles at Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill, Dominus Estate, and Rudd Estate, where his commitment to traditional Old World techniques combined with California fruit helped establish a new benchmark for elegance and age-worthiness.
Founded in 1996 alongside his wife Carla, Ramey Wine Cellars has become one of the most respected names in American wine. David Ramey was among the earliest champions of native yeast fermentation, whole-cluster pressing, extended lees aging, and restrained use of new oak for Chardonnay—techniques inspired by Burgundy but adapted to California's finest vineyards. His Cabernet Sauvignons similarly balance richness with structure, producing wines of remarkable longevity that have earned acclaim from critics and collectors worldwide.
Today, David Ramey is regarded as one of California's true icons—a mentor to countless winemakers and a recipient of numerous lifetime achievement honors. His influence extends well beyond his own winery, shaping how an entire generation approaches Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
Throughout the evening, Dan Buckler will guide us through Ramey's vineyard sources, winemaking philosophy, and the subtle differences that terroir imparts across Sonoma County's most celebrated vineyards.
