Bright and quietly textured, this opens with pear, yellow apple, and white peach, layered with almond blossom, fennel frond, and a gentle mineral note. The palate is fresh but not thin, with crisp orchard fruit carried by lively acidity and a subtle leesy roundness that gives the wine shape. A faint bitter-almond edge and citrus peel emerge on the finish, keeping it clean, dry, and food-friendly. A well-balanced Roero Arneis that favors clarity and nuance over overt perfume or weight.

Terroir Club June 2025: Bouquets in the Glasses

Why this set of wines? Because, hopefully, our idyllic Wisconsin summer is finally here and it's time to enjoy chilled, summery whites and rosés. Maybe I was inspired by planting so many flowers in the garden with my fiancée, but the theme of this set of wines turned out, to my palate, to be a story of gorgeous flowery aromas unfurling in the glass!

This northern Italian stunner kicks off June’s liquid floristry. I’ve always loved Arneis, but this wine was an absolute shock of goodness—stunning aromas leaping out of the glass, while being super lush and multidimensional on the palate. The wine is absolutely brimming with flowering  peaches, golden apples, jasmine notes of honeycomb and just touches of nutmeg spice. The palate is rounded and super smooth, just great on its own but recipes from the region also come to mind - saffron and zucchini Tajarin, butternut squash ravioli with sage garnish; chicken or light game in a butter citrus sauce. Or, if you're sitting on a picnic blanket, just share some Robiola, La Tur, or Tomino - all Piemontese cheeses.
