Terroir Club June 2025: Bouquets in the Glasses

Why this set of wines? Because, hopefully, our idyllic Wisconsin summer is finally here and it's time to enjoy chilled, summery whites and rosés. Maybe I was inspired by planting so many flowers in the garden with my fiancée, but the theme of this set of wines turned out, to my palate, to be a story of gorgeous flowery aromas unfurling in the glass!

I simply love the smell of Muskateller—all green apples, honey blossom, heliotrope, gooseberry and minerals. I think Austrians do Muskateller best because they harvest it fairly early, leaving it not overperfumed, but racy and dry. This one is a field blend, which touches my heart as well—these old-vine vineyards let us taste the hard work of generations who came before. It’s perfect as a crisp cocktail in the sun, but also great with all kinds of fresh green vegetables (seriously, just aim green and you’ll find a great pairing). If you want to go further afield, Muskateller also pairs mightily with spicy foods including Indian, Thai and other Southeast Asian cuisines.
