Could we think of a more complicated name than “L’Antica Quercia Su Alto Indigeno Col Fondo Vino Frizzzante 2019”? Probably not! But when a sparkling wine is this good, who cares? So let’s tell you just how yummy this sparkler is:

Aromas of peach and apple, white flowers and honeysuckle quiver up from the glass in an elegant dance of aromas. The palate offers up just a kiss of richness making it perfect for a champagne cocktail, mimosa, or just straightaway lake-side sipping. Fresh and vibrant, offering a full-bodied champagne experience of toast and brioche, imparting a long and lingering finish. An absolutely delicious sparkler.

Don’t believe us? How about a review from Master Sommelier Kerin O’Keefe?

“93 points. Racy, savory and mineral driven, this radiant, chiseled semisparkler delivers flavors of ripe pear, apple, tangy white grapefruit and graphite. Made with organically farmed grapes, it boasts vibrant acidity that adds to the mineral tension while a light mousse lends finesse.” - Wine Enthusiast

Now let’s return to the name because the best is yet to come: Su Alto means “up high” - as in, the highest, and oldest, vines on the estate.

Indigeno means indigenous, meaning that they use the indigenous grape of the region - Glera.

Col Fondo literally means “with sediment”, and this requires a little bit of explaining. Prosecco is usually made with a “force tank” method - it’s made like kegs of beer or Coca-Cola. But here, under the ancient Col Fondo method, the wine is not clarified, or simplified, filtered or fined. It’s left on its lees, developing richness and body.

You’ve heard of this method before - in Champagne. Champagne’s famous yeast, brioche and toast aromas come from long-term lees aging. Here, under Col Fondo and with this bottle, the wine has been aging 5 years on the less, almost twice as long as Champagne. But note! This ancient method means the sparkler isn’t fined. There is sediment in the bottle. Simply don't agitate the bottle too much, and the sediment will settle at the bottom. And remember this is purposeful - its what makes Champagne, Champagne; and here, delivering you the life force of the vineyard.

The name of the winery is L’Antica Quercia - “the ancient oak tree”. The name is a direct reference to two ancient oak trees that adorn the property. As owner and winemaker Claudio Francella puts it: “More than 10 years ago, when we travelled the dirt road that leads to the Antica Quercia for the first time, we felt obliged to respect every single centimetre of this land. We felt so small beneath the shade of the big tree and we could only embrace a cultivation method that respects these trees. Growing grapes in this way is not easy, but it makes us happy. We have chosen organic growing because we feel it is the best choice, maybe we could give it another name, but what remains is our focus and the relationship we have created with the plants we have grown over the years.”

To break it all down - this property falls within the most prestigious appellation of Prosecco - Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG. But the ancient method, choicest vineyards, and organic and sustainable farming shift it above and beyond that designation.

This sparkler is at the apex of your sparkling experience. Come join the L’Antica Quercia family in the high hills of Valdobbiadene and drink in this amazing experience. And maybe best of all, we’ve got it at an amazing price!
