When we're doing barrel picks (It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it!), it's seldom that everyone who tastes the samples agrees on a clear winner. This barrel was a unanimous hands-down favorite, and it wasn't even close. Not because the other samples were sub-par—indeed, all were among some of the best bourbons we've tasted this year. But this one was absolutely stunning.
Larrikin has been one of our hottest producers since their Wisconsin debut in 2024. Currently only distributed in three states and sourcing from some of the best producers in Kentucky, they are making waves with reviewers, including being heralded as "Bourbon's best-kept secret." Their single barrel bourbon won "Spirit of the Year" at last year's Monterey International Spirits Competition.
Just in the past few months, we've received countless calls from as far away as California inquiring about availability!
Larrikin Bourbon Co. was founded by veteran Greg Keeley, who hails from Australia and had commissions in both the U.S. Navy and Royal Australian Navy. The name Larrikin derives from the Aussie slang for Maverick, and it embodies Greg's commitment to making the best bourbon he can, whether that's distilling his own juice or sourcing from his famous neighbors on the Bourbon Trail.
This private single barrel is 75% Corn, 21% Rye, and 4% Barley, and clocks in at a solid 122.8 proof. With a 9-year age statement, the bottle is at the absolute peak of drinking perfection. This exceptionally balanced sipper features earthy tobacco and a deep, fruity sweetness, with notes of caramel and vanilla custard.
Previous releases of their Single Barrel Bourbon have had 8-year age statements. This features a 9-year statement, the same as their limited "Deep Purple" release from last year that was going for north of $250 a bottle.
This is one of the most limited barrel picks we've ever done, and we can't wait for you to add it to your collection! But don't wait, it's going to fly.
