To my understanding, Penya rosé is a joint project between a local French cooperative in the Cotes Catalanes (in southern France’s Languedoc-Roussilon region) and an American importer. The idea being, that the French do the winemaking, and the Americans do the importing and marketing. Together, we’ve got something quite tasty in bottle:
The Penya rosé opens with aromas of wild strawberries, watermelon and hints of orange peel. Serve it just a touch chilled (or not, your choice!) and the underlying goût de terroir of garrigue, savory spices and herbes de Provence will shine through. On the palate, Penya’s rosé is essentially a red wine – broader than you would expect with a crisp, zippy finish.
And besides all this, we know many of you Waterfordians get the larger joke – you’re getting great wine, closed out to you, and this screw-capped (meaning no oxygen infiltration, hence no aging) steal of a beauty will be waiting patiently in your cellar.
