Ron Izalco Rum 10 Year

Ron Izalco is new to Wisconsin, but we’ve been eagerly awaiting its arrival after tasting it at spirits festivals over the last couple years.

It’s the result of a partnership between Phenomenal Spirits founder Karthik Sudhir and Matt Witzig, the Master Blender behind the launch of Joseph Magnus Bourbon. Ron Izalco is sourced from Central America rather than the Caribbean. Sudhir set out to find the best land for sugar cane production, and discovered the volcanic soils around the Izalco peak in western El Salvador.

In some places, a 10-year age statement means that there’s just a few drops of older juice in the blend.  Not so with Ron Izalco, all of Izalco’s rums are aged at least 10 years, and then blended under the watchful eye of Witzig. They have amassed one of the best rum stockpiles in the United States, along with sourcing some of the best American Oak barrels from the best cooperages in Kentucky.

The flagship 10-year rum offers flavors an exceptionally complex flavor profile with apricots, caramel, toasted nuts, and sweet pipe tobacco. This is what put Ron Izalco on the map, taking a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (one of the few spirits competitions where a gold medal actually means something) before it was widely released in the United States. This can be enjoyed neat, or used to elevate your favorite rum drink.
