There are vintages when Troplong Mondot feels simply grand — and then there are vintages when it feels inevitable. Perched on Saint-Émilion’s high limestone crest, the estate had every natural advantage in 2022: elevation to preserve freshness, clay-limestone soils to steady the vines through drought, and a winemaking philosophy now tuned toward purity over opulence. The result is a wine that critics didn’t just admire — they rewarded with some of the highest scores of the year.

James Suckling — 98–99 Points, declaring it “a wine of tension and verve… The tannins are most impressive — so chalky, textured, and meshed. This is muscular with finesse.”
Suckling’s note captures the new Troplong perfectly: intensity wrapped in lift, power rendered architectural.

Jane Anson — 97 Points, praising its “sleek, sculpted, precise, and concentrated” profile. She calls it one of the Right Bank’s most terroir-transparent successes of 2022, shaped by altitude, limestone, and restraint.

Jeb Dunnuck — 97–99 Points, who writes: “It reminds me slightly of what you might get from a great Pomerol… Building tannins, a broad, expansive mouthfeel, flawless balance, and a notable sense of freshness.”
Any time Pomerol is invoked for a Saint-Émilion, you know the wine has entered elevated territory.

And indeed, the wine plays in a higher register from the start: black raspberry, cassis, violets, mint, cocoa nib, graphite, and that cool limestone pulse that marks Troplong’s plateau. The palate is deep and finely terraced, with luxurious tannins and a finish that travels from dark fruit to warm stone to spice in slow, confident waves.

This is the modern Troplong at full stride — pure, vertical, richly textured, and unmistakably built for decades.
