Event Details
Chateau Salettes is one of our favorite Bandol producers, for both rose and rouge. Please join us as we welcome Christiane Reboul, director for the estate, for a casual walk in tasting.
The Château Salettes estate is certainly one of the oldest in the Bandol appellation. Belonging to the Ricard family since 1604, the generations of Ricard de la Gaillardière, Ricard and finally Boyer have passed down this stony land where Mourvèdre, the king grape variety, gives its letters of nobility to Bandol. The name “SALETTES” comes from this place where salt, a rich and precious commodity in the Middle Ages, was stored on the estate. In 1604, the Ricard de la Gaillardière bought this estate. They were merchants in the Old Port of Marseille and dreamed of this life in the countryside close to the land, vineyards and olive trees. Until 1956, the year of the severe frost in France which destroyed most of the olive trees on the property, the estate produced as much olive oil as wine. Because we are as close as possible to nature and the well-being of our land, production has been certified organic farming (EcoCert) since the 2018 vintage. One more step towards an “eco-responsible” estate, an approach which is close to my heart.
